Students at Maricopa High School are a talented group, not only academically, but also as performers. On Friday, Feb. 27, 21 acts will perform for friends, families and staff members in the MHS Talent Show ’09 at the high school football stadium.

Organizer Nick Lopez teaches culinary arts at the school and recently held tryouts for the show. “All participants are staff and students of MHS. We have a variety of areas, including dancing, singing, rapping, bands, piano duets and comic skits,” said Lopez.

Student performers include:

BSU Step Team
“The Battle”– break dance
Raceway 17
Falling Out
CIRCUS Dance Team
Jhane Cambell
Cheyenne Burns
Ellis Pringles
Tanisha Brown
Kaylen Langelier
Alex Medrano

According to Lopez, the MHS Link Crew, sponsored by Krista Barrett, is doing most of the work in preparation for the school’s first ever talent show. The Link Crew is made up of juniors and seniors who want to make a difference on their campus and work to help the freshmen transition into high school. “The senior working directly with me is Kim Aielo, and it’s because of her we have come this far,” said Lopez.

The first place talent winner will receive a prize, which is being kept secret for now. Admission is free for MHS students with ID and $1 for everyone else.

“Make sure you take advantage of this opportunity to see how much the school, community and the talent has grown in recent years,” said Lopez.
