The Maricopa High School Rams volleyball team hosted their annual Mini Rams Camp at the Ak-Chin Gym July 21-22.
The camp was open to boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 14. The camp’s purpose is to teach young volleyball athletes the basic skills of the game, as well as instilling knowledge needed to succeed in the sport.
The camp is sponsored by the Maricopa Volleyball Booster Club, and the high school’s players and coaching staff serve as the instructors.
During the camp, the athletes were separated by age and appointed instructors. The instructors taught the young players the basics of passing, serving and moving on the court. The more advanced players also learned to spike, and recover if the opponent spikes.
Approximately 50 athletes attended the camp this year.
