The MOMS Club of Maricopa – Wells held its second annual garage sale April 20-21 to raise money for the Maricopa Friends of the Library and their library-related projects. MOMS Club members presented a check for $742.66 to the Friends of the Library members Monday evening.

MOMS Club Maricopa – Wells, founded in 2006, is a chapter of MOMS Club International, which has more than 2,000 chapters worldwide. The Wells chapter has more than 45 members; its president is Johnna Pascador. The three MOMS Club chapters in Maricopa, Santa Rosa, Pima Butte and Wells, have more than 150 members combined. In the next few weeks a fourth chapter, Cruz, will be organized.

The Friends are still selling their cookbooks, “Home Cookin’ from Maricopa, Arizona” for $10 per copy. They will also be providing prizes for the library’s Harry Potter book release party. The final novel in the series is due for release on July 21.

In just a few weeks the definitive history of Maricopa, “Reflections on a Desert Town,” by former resident, teacher and local historian Pat Brock will arrive. The Friends have spearheaded the republication of this important book outlining the history of Arizona’s 88th city. There is no profit involved for either Brock or the Friends; any monies raised from the sale of the book will go directly to fund a history area in the planned, new Maricopa Community Library. Books will be available at Founders’ Day on October 13.

The following weekend, October 20, the Friends will hold their fall used book sale.

The Friends of the Maricopa Community Library meet every second Monday of the month at 6 p.m. in the Pima Butte Elementary School library. For further information about membership or projects, email the Friends at [email protected].
