Local police cadets took home prestigious titles in a tactical competition last weekend.

Cadets with Maricopa Police Department competed in the 26th Annual Chandler Tactical Competition Saturday and Sunday.

The Maricopa cadets competed against 52 teams from across the nation.

Maricopa cadets placed second in a high-risk vehicle stop event, MPD announced Tuesday. The exercise involves patrol officers on traffic stops tasked with taking control of a suspect vehicle without any injury to potential victims or bystanders.

The cadets placed third in the VirTra decision shoot training, where they competed in shoot-or-don’t-shoot decisions on the new VirTra virtual firearms system.  Their thought process, decisions, command presence, judgment and shot placement were put to the test, according to Chandler police.

Welfare checks are also in Maricopa cadets’ wheelhouse. They placed fifth place in the competition.
