Maricopa police officers at about 6:30 a.m. July 5 responded to a burglary in the 18000 block of North Stonegate Road in the Glennwilde subdivision, police reported today.

The homeowner reported that as she walked into a bedroom she observed a young male suspect in the residence without permission attempting to steal some of their possessions. As she confronted the suspect he displayed and used a stun gun device to shock her with a mild electrical impulse which allowed him to escape. The suspect then fled the residence, possibly leaving in a small black SUV. The suspect was described as a Hispanic male that was short and thin, with short spiky black hair, wearing a black t-shirt, blue jeans, and white tennis shoes.

Earlier that morning the victim had opened the garage door in anticipation of the arrival of a construction crew to complete some tile work. The victim related that she had heard a door close but at the time thought it was the crew until she encountered the suspect. Several items were also taken from the open garage and vehicles.

The victim had no visible signs of injury and said that she was O.K., but as a precautionary measure she was checked by Maricopa Fire Department personnel.

The victim, with the assistance of a police sketch artist, was able to complete a sketch of the suspect. The Maricopa Police Investigation Unit is actively working this case.
