MPD to request procurement exemption at Tuesday’s council meeting

The Maricopa Police Department (MPD) wants to purchase an emergency medical radio frequency combiner/multicoupler so multiple agencies can use the radio equipment while working in the city.

Tomorrow, whether to do just that is on the agenda for the City Council to discuss and possibly approve the expense of up to $12,000. MPD has also requested the city waive the customary step of sending the purchase out to bid. That means, that if approved, the business would automatically go to Creative Sales & Rentals Inc. The money to pay for the equipment would come from the city budget line, already in place to purchase radio support hardware.

Discussion of awarding a competitive bid contract for library facilities, whether to apply for a State Shared Revenue Grant with Ak-Chin, review special permit applications including a request for a live nativity, public improvements and employment openings with Planning and Zoning are also on deck.

In addition, members of the City Council are set to tackle the sign code and discuss possible uses for a Community Development Block Grant in a work session tomorrow before going into regular session at 7 p.m. at the Global Water Facility at 22590 N. Powers Parkway. Transportation Director Brent Billingsley will present to the Council steps needed to reduce air pollution in Pinal County.
