MUSD blended-learning program to be offered at both junior highs

The Maricopa Unified School District announced it will offer the blended-learning program piloted this year at Maricopa Wells Middle School at both junior high schools in the 2013-2014 school year following Wednesday’s vote not to close a school to help ease a budget shortfall.

Up to 50 students will be enrolled in the program, called MUSD 20 + 1, each at MWMS and Desert Wind Middle School. The district is moving to a junior-high system in the next academic year and retaining sixth graders at the elementary schools.

If the district receives more than 50 applications at either school, it will conduct a lottery during the April 24 governing board meeting.

Joseph Veres, head of the blended-learning program and principal at DWMS, will contact families prior to the meeting to let them know if a lottery is needed.

Students currently enrolled with MUSD 20 + 1, and students of staff members, will be placed into the program prior to the lottery.

A registration form can be found by clicking here, at the District Office, Maricopa Wells Middle School or Desert Wind Middle School.

Completed registration forms can be returned to Lisa Hahn at the District Office or electronically to Veres at [email protected]. More information is available by calling Veres at 520-568-7110 or by emailing him.
