Applications being accepted to fill school board vacancy

Applications are now being accepted to fill the vacancy on the Maricopa Unified School District governing board created with the resignation of board member Veronica Gay.

The deadline to apply is 5 p.m., Aug. 19. The successful candidate will be seated through Dec. 31, 2014.

Pinal County School Superintendent Jill M. Broussard will make the appointment.

Eligible Maricopa residents can apply online at www.PinalESA.org by clicking on the Elections tab, then on the Board Member Vacancies and then on Maricopa Unified Application for School Board Appointment.

To be eligible, applicants must:

• Be a registered voter in the state of Arizona.
• Have lived in the school district for at least one year.
• Not be an employee, or have a spouse who is an employee, of the district.
• Not be a member of the any other school district governing board.
• Not have any immediate family who lives with them, or has lived with the in the past four years, currently on the board.

The application can be completed online, but it must be printed out, signed, notarized and the original mailed or hand delivered by the deadline. The superintendent’s office is at 75 N. Bailey, Florence.
