The Maricopa Unified School District school board will recognize board member Jim Irving at its 6 p.m. regular meeting Tuesday.

The Dec. 11 meeting was rescheduled from its usual Wednesday slot.

Irving, who moved to Maricopa in 2005, was appointed to the seat by Pinal County School Superintendent Orlenda Roberts in 2011 when former board member Carrie Vargas resigned.

Although he often volunteered for the school district prior to his appointment to the school board, Irving said from the beginning he did not intend to run for the vacant seat.

He will be replaced by Veronica Gay, who along with Vice President Torri Anderson and board member Leslie Carlyle-Burnett, was elected to the board in November.

Anderson and Carlyle-Burnett also were appointed to the board.

On Tuesday, members of the board will consider a new draft of facility-rental regulations including fee increases beginning Jan. 1.

The increases are to help the district cover all the costs it incurs on rentals, including indirect costs.

Public comment on the draft regulations is welcomed by the school board and can be submitted to Aron Rausch, director of business services, at [email protected], by calling 520-568-5100 ext. 1014.

The board also will consider approving Maricopa High School students for travel to attend the Arizona Association of Student Councils’ student council convention Jan. 24-26 at Campo Verde High School in Gilbert.

Only 10 students per school may attend the conference, which features motivational speakers, teambuilding exercises and a chance for student leaders from around the state to network.

Deputy Superintendent Ember Conley will give a presentation site-based health clinics.
