The Maricopa Unified School District has announced a series of internal staffing changes leading to the removal of Mike Larsen as the high school athletic director.

These shifts will result in Desert Wind Middle School Principal Isaac Perez temporarily moving to Maricopa Wells Middle School to assist in a school-improvement plan. Maricopa Wells is currently failing to make Adequate Yearly Progress standards for a third straight year.

Joe Veres, the assistant principal at Maricopa Wells, will become the interim principal at Desert Wind. He will be assisted by elementary assistant principals Danielle Record and Rachele Reese.

Shannon Hull will become the new vice principal and athletic director at Maricopa High School, while the current athletic director, Mike Larsen, will become a physical education instructor at the Maricopa Wells Middle School.

A press release from the district stated the changes were made to improve the overall academic success of students at MUSD.

All changes will become effective Monday, Sept. 21.
