The school district is now taking applications for lottery registration for the Maricopa Unified School District’s 20+1 program at Desert Wind and Maricopa Wells middle schools for the 2014-2015 school year.

Registration will close April 11.

The 20+1 blended learning program incorporates traditional classroom teaching with project-based instruction and includes a technology piece, said Diane Vigil, administrative assistant to Krista Roden, district director of teaching and learning.

Since demand for the program can be higher than the number of students the district can accommodate, enrollment into the program is based on a lottery, Vigil said. The program will enter its third year next year.

Students already in the program have top priority followed by children of district staff, she said. For students not accepted by priority, the date of the application submitted determines the student’s place in the lottery – first-come-first-served.

The program is also available to ninth-grade students at Maricopa High School.

Lottery registration forms can be found on the MUSD district homepage, district office and at each school site, according to a district press release. The 20+1 program was not offered to students in the sixth and ninth grades this year, but will be available at those grade levels in 2014-2015.

Final selection will be posted on the district website on May 1, according to the release. Registration forms can be submitted to Vigil at the district office or electronically at [email protected].
