The Maricopa Unified School District announced Wednesday it has selected Renita Myers, an assistant principal at Maricopa High School, to become the new principal at Desert Wind Middle School for the upcoming school year.

Superintendent Steve Chestnut said Myers will replace Yvette Harpe, who is resigning.

“We are very excited to have Renita (accept the position),” Chestnut said. “She has done an excellent job as an assistant principal at Maricopa High School.”

Before becoming one of the assistant principals at the high school, Myers taught Spanish at MHS, he said.

“We think she has excellent skills she will bring to the principalship,” he added.

Myers stated in a district press release: “It is with great pleasure and excitement that I announce my acceptance of the principal position at Desert Wind Middle School.

“I'm confident that with this new endeavor I will continue to contribute to our high school's success by readying our eighth-graders for high school,” she said.

Chestnut said Harpe is resigning to relocate to be closer to her family in Payson. Before coming to MUSD, Harpe was assistant principal at Rim Country Middle School in Payson.
