Commuters near Homestead and The Lakes at Rancho El Dorado subdivisions can look forward to less congestion and increased safety.

The long-awaited traffic light at the intersection of West Smith Enke Road and Homestead Drive is now operational after weeks of delays.

Construction began in early May with initial plans to open by the end of June.

But due to a scheduling conflict with the striping contractor, the city’s Marketing and Communications Manager Brandon LaVorgna said workers were unable to complete the finishing touches on time.

As of this morning, LaVorgna said the intersection had been striped, ensuring pedestrian safety.

“Crews are out there now to make sure everything is working properly at the intersection,” LaVorgna said.

The new signal is the first to be installed with black, powder-coated poles in an effort to upgrade infrastructure and aesthetic value.
