You might notice a smoother commute this week on Maricopa’s main throughfare. 

Construction crews with Tolleson-based Cactus Asphalt is conducting nighttime crack-and-seal work on North John Wayne Parkway between West Smith-Enke Road and West Steen Road. Motorists should watch for drivers traveling in both directors between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. 

Lane closures are slated to end Jan. 8, the city’s website states. 

Lane restrictions on northbound John Wayne Parkway, leaving town are slated to remain in place until June 24, 2024, city officials said. 

Garvey Avenue between Estrella Parkway to Condrey Avenue remains closed to all traffic for roadwork. It is scheduled to reopen May 1, 2024. Road construction on Heritage Lane in the Heritage District is set to last until Dec. 23. 

Residents at the following neighborhoods should note street sweeping schedules this upcoming week:    

  • Rancho El Dorado, Monday, Dec. 18 and Tuesday, Dec. 19. 
  • The Lakes at Rancho El Dorado, Wednesday, Dec. 20. 
  • Santa Rosa Springs, Thursday, Dec. 21. 
  • Desert Passage, Thursday, Dec. 2. 

The city will turn on a four-way stoplight at the corner of John Wayne and Sonoran Desert Parkways between Dec. 18 and Dec. 20. Work at that intersection will finish with striping Dec. 21 to 22.  

Arizona Department of Transportation reports there are no freeway closures scheduled in Phoenix-area through New Year’s weekend for those driving out of Maricopa.
