Three Maricopa Police officers are standing guard this morning, blocking entrance to a home on the corner of Alexis Avenue and Thornberry Lane to make sure no one crosses the yellow crime scene tape that has secured the area since Wednesday.

The officers said no one on site was in charge, and that Sergeant Mary Turner, who oversees criminal investigations for the department, is handling the matter.

“We have not been inside,” one of the officers said, who did not disclose his name. “We are basically security guards.”

Sergeant Stephen Judd, a spokesman for Maricopa Police, said detectives are getting ready to serve a search warrant on the property related to an investigation regarding vicious dogs.

Judd declined to comment on what sort of incidents involving dogs or related injuries might have taken place to prompt the need for the search.

“We cannot release any additional information,” Judd said. “Once the search warrant is served, we can do a full media release.”
