Parish carnival, festival at full speed this weekend

The 6th annual Our Lady of Grace Parish Festival and Carnival resumed Friday after it was rained out last weekend, running to 8 p.m. Sunday.

Performances by TL;DR – 5 to 6:30 p.m. – and the Corporate Lockdown Band – 7 to 10 p.m. – will be featured tonight. TL;DR is comprised mostly of local musicians who went to Maricopa High School.

The carnival and festival runs to 10:30 p.m. tonight.

Sunday’s festivities start at 10:30 a.m. and on-stage events include Mexican cultural dances at 1:30 p.m. and a youth talent show 2:30 to 5 p.m.

The festival features Filipino and Mexican food prepared by parish members and traditional carnival food including popcorn, snow cones and corndogs.

In honor of the Super Bowl, on Sunday there will be beer, pizza, hot dogs and other traditional Super Bowl party food.

Nonfood vendors include Hollywood Nights Boutique selling purses, wallets, sunglasses and other accessories; Maricopa Smiles giving away free toothpaste, toothbrushes and floss; and Scentsy Candles selling an array of candle dishes and scents.

The silent auction ends Sunday at 7 p.m. Items include a Coach wallet and purse, a Kindle Fire, a handmade guitar, a gourmet dinner for six with Father Marcos and Father Rudy, a Sun’s Jerrod Dudley autographed jersey and more.
