A woman driving through Senita ran over her own leg on Sunday night after failing to put in her car in park when she got out to attend to puppies on the road, according to Maricopa police.

At about 9 p.m., Maricopa Police and Maricopa Fire and Medical were dispatched to Maricopa Groves Parkway near North Meghan Drive in Senita on a report of a vehicle running into a pedestrian.

When officers arrived, they learned that the woman who got hit was the driver of the vehicle. She told officers that she saw puppies running on the road and got out to try to get them. It was reported the woman did not put her vehicle in park, it reversed and ran over her leg.

According to Maricopa police, the woman was transported to a hospital in Chandler with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers did not recover any puppies.
