Pima Butte in lead after Academic League’s third round

Maricopa Unified School District continued its fourth annual Elementary Academic League with competitions on March 23. Pima Butte Elementary’s fourth and fifth grade teams are currently in the lead.

Host schools for the third round were Butterfield, Saddleback and Santa Rosa Elementary Schools. Friends and family members were in the audience at each site to support the fourth and fifth grade students on the panels. 

Results for the third round of competition:

Butterfield vs. Santa Cruz:

4th grade total points:  Butterfield = 17, Santa Cruz = 13
5th grade total points: Butterfield = 14, Santa Cruz = 12
 
Saddleback vs. Maricopa Elementary:

4th grade total points:  Saddleback = 18, Maricopa Elementary = 9
5th grade total points:  Saddleback = 14, Maricopa Elementary = 9
 
Santa Rosa vs. Pima Butte:

4th grade total points: Santa Rosa = 11, Pima Butte = 19           
5th grade total points: Santa Rosa = 18, Pima Butte = 21

The final Academic League competition is scheduled for May 4 at Butterfield Elementary School. “We will celebrate with all of our students in an awards ceremony following the competition,” said the league’s facilitator, Korrin Ledbetter.

“There are no losers in our Academic League,” said Ledbetter. “All are winners, as every student reaps the benefits from competing. If there are any doubts, just look at the smiling faces of our students, their families and staff.”
