Planning process takes to the road to chart future of Pinal County

Recognizing that Pinal County is one of the fastest growing counties in America, the Pinal County Board of Supervisors felt the time was right to take the show on the road to determine what it would take to be a distinctive, livable and competitive county.

Last fall the Morrison Institute for Public Policy at Arizona State University was retained to conduct research exploring possible futures for county residents to consider. To take the visioning effort forward, Partners for Strategic Action, Inc. (PSA) was hired this spring.

PSA, working closely with residents, stakeholders, landowners and elected/appointed officials, will develop the Pinal County Vision and Comprehensive Plan Update–a roadmap for the future of Pinal.

The first series of public events, to be held over the next 12 months, is scheduled for July. Nine road shows will be conducted around Pinal County to discuss future growth and the development of the county. Residents are invited to participate in one or more of the road shows.

The same information will be presented at each event, but due to the dynamics of the
various locations and participants, the dialogue will vary. The consulting team will present Pinal County “Realities and Opportunities” and facilitate a dialogue about residents’ visions and ideas.

Maricopa’s Pinal County Comprehensive Plan road show will be held on Tuesday, July 10, from 6:30 – 8 p.m. at the University of Arizona Agricultural Center’s multi-purpose room, 37860 W. Smith-Enke Rd.

The information collected from the road shows will assist in developing a framework for the creation of the county’s vision. In August another series of vision workshops will be organized around the county to develop the Pinal County Vision Statement, which will guide the development of the Pinal County Comprehensive Plan. When completed, the plan will be a tool to help guide and shape the county’s future growth.
