A 21-year-old man, who police say was trying to steal his mother’s TV, was arrested on assault and disorderly conduct charges after he allegedly pushed and injured her.

In a March 14 probable cause statement, Maricopa police officers said the victim was on the phone to police dispatch to report her son, Mahde Edwards, was trying to take a TV from her home on West Roth Road. She said he intended to sell it.

While she was on the phone, she said Edwards ran up and pushed her to the ground. She sustained lacerations to her left knee and thigh, police said.

He was later found roaming the neighborhood in the vicinity of Bowlin Road and State Route 347 and arrested.

Edwards, who was standout basketball player at Leading Edge Academy, faces more than six months in jail for the charges.
