Maricopa police are looking into allegations against a contract employee who taught a special needs class in the Maricopa Unified School District.

Superintendent Steve Chestnut said the employee’s services at Santa Cruz Elementary School were discontinued Thursday after working for the district for less than two weeks.

Maricopa Police Department spokesman Ricky Alvarado and Chestnut would not give details of the allegations, but a Phoenix news station reported Monday at least one student was physically harmed.

The employee was working in the district through the Maryland-based staffing agency, Premier Staffing Source Inc., Chestnut said.

InMaricopa.com contacted Premier Staffing Source Inc. on Tuesday. A woman on the phone would not answer questions and stated: “We have no comment at this time.”

Alvarado said the case is being reviewed.
