Should Juneteenth be an official city holiday?

An InMaricopa poll of 1,095 readers this week found most don’t want to spend millions of taxpayer dollars to add a new paid day off to the city calendar.

Seven in 10 readers said they do not think Juneteenth should be an official city holiday.

“There are already so many holidays,” Rebecca Clark said.

One-fourth said it should.

“All religious and culturally significant days should be celebrated,” Ty Treadway contended.

Just 4% of readers said Juneteenth should be a floating holiday, something the city council briefly considered. That would give city employees the option to observe or not.
