Correction: A previous version of this article said nearly two-thirds of readers did not taxes used for art. The correct amount was nearly one-third of readers (31%).

Last week’s informal poll gauged readers’ opinions on recent public art initiatives around town and the results were a bit surprising.

Nearly one-third of InMaricopa readers responded, “Don’t use my taxes for art.” These readers must love beige walls.

Despite the opposition, most InMaricopa readers want to see more public art around town. Murals were the most popular option, taking 26% of votes. Commenters suggested painting sunflower fields, John Wayne and even a dreamy vision of a six-lane State Route 347 on the side of a building.

Speaking of John Wayne, 20% of readers requested a statue of the Duke be erected somewhere. Perhaps along his namesake road?
