Readers disagree with vice mayor choice

Nearly 70 percent of readers who responded to this week’s online poll don’t agree with the decision by members of the Maricopa City Council to reappoint Edward Farrell II as vice mayor.

Of the 250 who responded, 171, or 68 percent, voted no. Forty-three, or 17 percent, said they agree, while 36, or 14, said they didn’t know.

Before the council selected Farrell, Councilwoman Julia Gusse nominated herself for the job but her motion failed for lack of a second.

Gusse said Friday the poll results support her belief she would have been a good choice for vice mayor.

“I put my nomination out there for this exact reason and many people in the community have told me I should be the vice mayor,” she said.

However, Alan Marchione, who nominated Farrell, said the vice mayor was “absolutely the best choice.”
