Pupils dig in to help move dirt for new Legacy Traditional School

School officials, Mayor Kelly Anderson, Vice Mayor Murphree and City Manager Kevin Evans weren’t the only ones on hand Tuesday to help break ground for Legacy Traditional School’s second campus.

In all, about 30 people helped dig shovels in the ground where the second Legacy charter school will open its doors in fall 2008.

Many of them were pupils and their teachers.

That doesn’t mean the officials in hard hats didn’t enjoy themselves, too.

“I’m very excited about breaking ground,” Anderson said. “I will do anything in my power as mayor to make sure this school opens on time.”

Anderson added that children are important to him.

“Thirty percent of the population is below the age of 15, and they are the heart of the city,” he said.
