A solid outing from the Maricopa High pitcher Matt Clark propelled the Rams to their sixth straight win, beating Antelope High 13-3 Friday.

Clark, who has the lowest ERA in the 2A West region at 1.08, struck out 7 batters and allowed one earned run in the five-inning game.

Cody Seymore led the Rams offensively, going two-for-three with a double and a triple.

Maricopa scored in every inning of the shortened game, which was called in the fifth inning due to the 10-run mercy rule. Friday’s game marked the fifth time this season that the Rams have outscored their opponent by at least 10 runs.

The win brings the Rams to 6-1 in league play and 11-10 overall for the season. Maricopa is tied with Yuma Catholic in the 2A West region, but Maricopa holds the first place position because the Rams beat the Shamrocks 15-2 March 30.

Maricopa has five games left in the season, all against league opponents. Of those five, the only loss came against Gila Bend March 16. Since then, Gila Bend has won two more games, while the Rams have won eight.

The Rams will have the opportunity to clinch the division this week, with games against Yuma Catholic and Gila Bend.
