Rams boys’ soccer undefeated

The Maricopa boys’ soccer team continued to roll last night, picking up their tenth consecutive win of the year against Coolidge.

The Rams made quick work of the Coolidge Bears, scoring three goals in the first quarter and two goals in the second quarter.

“Our players are just playing at a high level right now,” said Rams head coach Jack Berg.

In the game the Rams had four players score at least one goal, and team leader Irving Garcia scored twice. The Rams have yet to lose a soccer match this season and are only five victories away from finishing the season undefeated.

“We knew about four games into the season that we had a special team, and everyone raised their expectations,” Berg said.

Florence and Antelope are the only two teams of the Rams’ remaining five games that have winning records. The other three teams have a combined record of 3-19.

Berg said he believes Florence will be the toughest match-up. The Rams were able to defeat Florence by one point earlier in the year on the road, handing them their only loss of the season.

“They are angry about that one loss and will want some revenge,” Berg said.

Although the Rams have five games remaining on their schedule, it is almost time to start talking playoffs.

In soccer the 16 top-ranked teams in the state go to a playoff tournament that will be held in Tempe this year.

Currently, the Rams are ranked as the third best team in the state.

“If you are a soccer coach and your team is still playing around Valentine’s Day, you are happy; however, your wife or girlfriend may not be,” Berg said.

Up next for the Rams is 0-8 Globe at home on Thursday.
