Maricopa High School distance star Chris Lessard barely missed in his quest for a state championship, finishing second in the 1600 meters at the AIA Division II Boys’ State Track and Field Championships Friday at Mesa Community College.
Lessard, who was seeded third in the event, lost to Andy Trouard, of Tucson Salpointe Catholic, by barely a second and a half. Lessard’s time was 4:21.25 with Trouard winning in 4:19.70.
Lessard also competed Saturday in the 3200. Results to come.
The Rams’ John Newman took 21st place in the 800 meters in 2:04.65.
