As patrons showed up Thursday afternoon to get a bite to eat at Ramsey’s American Grill, they found a note on the door. It wasn’t one welcoming them to come on inside.

According to the note, Ramsey’s has been closed down. The landlord, Barclay Group, indicated on the sign on the door that a lien had been placed on the property.

Several calls to owner Ramsey Harkness and representatives from Barclay Group were not returned Thursday afternoon.

Manager Rich Reeves told inmaricopa.com Thursday afternoon he was stunned with the closure.

“I have absolutely no more of an idea than you do,” Reeves said. “It baffles me. I got a call from one of the guys this morning that there was a notice on the door and the restaurant was closed. I’ve had a couple of calls into Ramsey but I haven’t heard back from him.”

Reeves, who said he was supposed to go into work today at 4 p.m., said he worked up until his shift ended at 8:30 p.m. last evening.

“It was a usual Wednesday night there,” Reeves said. “For all the employees, it is certainly a stunning surprise. Their initial reaction is they are bewildered and just stunned by the whole thing.”

Reeves said about 20 to 25 people worked at the place. “We’re a very close group of employees,” Reeves said. “My biggest concern now is the mental welfare of everybody.”

Ramsey’s American Grill opened for business in October of 2005.
