“Rattlesnake Rules” author Conrad Storad at library Saturday

Award-winning children’s writer Conrad Storad will be the first visiting author in a series scheduled by the Friends of the Maricopa Public Library. He will be at the Maricopa Public Library on Saturday, March 13.

Storad is the author of more than 30 science and nature books for children and young adults. In May 2009 his book Gila Monsters won the Glyph Award as Arizona’s Best Children’s Non-Fiction Book from the Arizona Book Publisher’s Association. In 2005 more than 93,000 Arizona first graders received a special edition copy of Storad’s Don’t Call me Pig! (A Javelina Story). In 2001 the Arizona Library Association honored Storad with the Judy Goddard Award as Arizona’s Children’s Author of the Year. His newest book is Rattlesnake Rules, detailing a snake’s life in a rhymed story format. For more information about Storad, visit his website.

The author’s visit to the Maricopa Public Library will include multiple presentations for children from pre-school through sixth grade. Additionally, he will conduct a 90-minute writers’ workshop – “Writing Non Fiction for Young Readers.”

Storad will also be available to autograph copies of his books, which may be purchased from the Friends of the Maricopa Public Library the day of his visit.

“The Friends of the Maricopa Public Library are so excited and honored to have Mr. Storad kick off our visiting author series,” said events chairman Stephanie Palmer.

The day’s schedule includes:

9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.: Younger Children’s Presentation (Pre-school through grade 2)
11 a.m. – 12 p.m.:  Older Children’s Presentation (grades 3 through 6)
1 p.m. – 2 p.m.:  Younger Children’s Presentation (Pre-school through grade 2)
2:30 p.m. – 4 p.m.:  Writing Non-Fiction for Young Readers Workshop (high school and adults)
