Who are you?

I’m Rep. Raul Grijalva, representing Arizona’s 7th District. I chair the House Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests, and Public Lands.

What don’t people know about you?

I genuinely enjoy hockey, and I’m hooked on murder mystery novels.

Why are you the best candidate?

I have been consistent and tell the truth directly to voters. I work very hard at my job because it’s a job, not an entitlement.

What’s your faviorite food?
Seafood paella.

Why are you running for office?

I believe in public service and the idea that the government can truly help people.

Who is the first person you will call if victorious?
My mother.

If you could invite three people to dinner who would they be?

Barry Goldwater, Benito Juarez and Eleanor Roosevelt.

What have you learned on the campaign trail?

Times are hard for many families, and they still want the American dream for their kids and. grandkids.

What is the oldest thing in your closet and why haven’t you thrown it away?

A certain pair of Levis, because I still believe I’ll fit into them one day.

What are the three most pressing issues facing your constituets and how do you address those issues?

Jobs, education and preserving Social Security. We need more investment in green technology and infrastructure upgrades, a replacement of No Child Left behind that reflects real local needs and includes funding for middle schools, and a commitment to strengthen rather than gut our commitments to retirees.

How did you get involved in politics?

I got involved in community activism more than 30 years ago when I saw the need for politically active members of the Hispanic community.

What separates you from your opponets?

Life experiences, and a deep connection to the region I represent.

What is the best advice you ever received?

Don’t sit on the middle of the fence – it only leads to unnecessary pain.
