Do you need a break from the holiday madness of gift buying, decorating and finding the time to bake and deliver Christmas cookies?  Have you discovered your version of the holiday season is nothing like what’s portrayed in the Hallmark Channel holiday movies?

Well, if you’re in need of an escape, all one has to do is visit our Maricopa Public Library for a good book.  The following titles are sure to please our community’s voracious readers.

For those who love the alphabet mysteries by bestselling author Sue Grafton featuring private investigator Kinsey Millhone you’ll enjoy “V is for Vengeance.”  Our favorite PI is celebrating her 38th birthday and it’s filled with a variety of characters, from a lonely widower to a crooked cop. There’s even a brutal businessman to help make it a fun read for mystery lovers.

David Baldacci introduces readers to a new hero, John Puller, who just happens to be a combat veteran who investigates crimes for the Army’s Criminal Investigative Division in “Zero Day.” He teams with a homicide detective in a remote West Virginia town to investigate the murder of a family and they soon discover a conspiracy that will impact the country.

People have disappeared without explanation and the locals in Mapleton refer to it as the “sudden departure.” New mayor Kevin Garvey is trying to help his town heal despite the fact that he has his own family problems in Tom Perrota’s “The Leftovers.”  Do you ever wonder what it would be like to travel back in time?  In “11/22/1963,” the newest fantasy by Stephen King, a man does just that with the soul purpose of preventing the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

Hugues Martin, the scion of an influential banking family, breaks with tradition and goes into the hotel business in Danielle Steele’s “Hotel Vendome.”  His story and that of his daughter is told in this new novel, which gives readers a glimpse of life in an exclusive hotel which offers its customers the luxurious experience money can buy.
