Exactly how many box tops does it take to win a pizza party? The 21 kindergarten students in Donna Duffy’s class at Santa Rosa Elementary School know. “A lot!”

In fact, the kindergarten class brought in 428 box tops to win a pizza party sponsored by Orbitel Communications. Second place, a popcorn party, went to Emily Supiot’s pre-school class for contributing 325 box tops.

The school gathered a total of 3,630 box tops for their spring fundraiser, according to coordinator Julie Kasper. “Those box tops translate to a $360 check from General Mills,” Kasper said. Each box top brings in about 10 cents for the school, and the monies are used to buy materials and teaching supplies for classrooms.

Box Tops for Education is an annual fundraiser at Santa Rosa Elementary. Twice each year, in the fall and spring, students bring in box tops from various General Mills products, including cereals, refrigerated dairy products, frozen foods, snacks, baking materials, storage bags and containers, paper products or disposable tableware and waste bags.

Orbitel Communications is in their fifth year of sponsoring the Box Tops for Education program at Santa Rosa Elementary. In addition to providing pizza and drinks for the winning class, the teacher also receives prizes from Orbitel.

“I won a $50 gift certificate to The Duke and a $50 gift certificate to Lakeshore Learning. I think that is so awesome,” said Duffy. “The pizza party was fun, and the class loved it.”
