Santa Rosa MOMS Club keeps on giving back

We all know there is great joy in giving. The MOMS Club – Santa Rosa have made giving to others a monthly endeavor. They also hold monthly meetings, have fundraisers, organize playgroups for their children, stage family events (see related story) and even enjoy a moms-only night out once a month. Above all, these at-home moms give time, monies and donated items to worthy causes, which they vote on and select.

Last month the group heard Torri Anderson speak about the plans for a domestic violence shelter in Maricopa; they donated funds for that cause. Since the shelter is a year or so away, the Maricopa MOMS Club – Santa Rosa turned their attention to the Against Abuse shelter in Casa Grande, which has been operating for 21 years. Not only did the group donate money to Against Abuse there, they also loaded up four vans full of children’s clothing, toys, baby and miscellaneous items for the Casa Grande location.

Pat Griffen, Against Abuse, Inc. director in Casa Grande, had this to say about the group’s efforts. “As with any and all donations to Against Abuse, we feel the compassion and caring from the donors. The biggest impact is the reality that we cannot fund everything, and, every time there is a generous donation, then we are able to stretch our funds that much further to assist the women and children in our programs.”

MOMS Club members made two different trips to Casa Grande with their donations. “We literally filled the office with our items,” explained Lisa Cannon, club president. “The first time we went I donated a baby bouncer seat; when we arrived the second time, there was a baby happily bouncing in that seat. It made me feel so happy to see that. Our donations were also an excellent lesson in sharing for some of our own children. We took them with us so they could experience giving to others who don’t have so many toys and games.”

Other recent activities for this moms’ group have been a self-defense class, a pizza-making field trip with the kids to Fat Daddy’s Pizza, a car seat safety check by the local fire department and a monetary donation to the Santa Rosa Elementary library. The children made cards, which will be delivered this month, for the elderly at a Valley care facility.

The MOMS Club – Santa Rosa know about the joy of giving, and they are giving back to their community on a regular basis.
