The Maricopa Unified School District school board voted Wednesday to replace the synthetic turf at the Maricopa High School athletic field with the Revolution series turf.

The board approved the consulting company’s recommendation.

The existing synthetic turf product Durspine “experienced wide-spread failures,” according to a report prepared by Lloyd Civil & Sports Engineering, a Scottsdale-based consulting company.

Revolution would be considered FieldTurf’s premium product and the market value for the turf is anticipated to be two-to-three times the $175,000 replacement cost.

The district will pay an additional $25,000 for Cool-Play infill and $2,000 for grading for a total cost of $202,000.

The board briefly debated from which fund to pay the replacement cost, but decided that could be decided at a later vote.
