School board holding strategic planning session

The Maricopa Unified School District’s governing board will hold a regularly scheduled meeting at the district office administration building, 44150 W. Maricopa-Casa Grande Hwy., at 6 p.m. tonight.

In addition to approving donations, expense vouchers and travel, the board will be asked to approve amendments to board operating protocol, including board and superintendent communications and each party’s expectations of same, meetings, preparation for meetings and after-meeting agreements, as well as site visits and emergency information arrangements.

Policy BEDB-Agenda will have a second reading, which includes the order of regular, special and emergency meetings, as well as executive sessions.

Tonight’s meeting will be primarily a board work/study session. Topics include the following:

  • Board and superintendent seating arrangements
  • Potential metrics for evaluating both the board and the superintendent
  • Long-term plans for the district
  • Development of three to five short term goals
  • A review and discussion of the district’s vision and mission statements

Board members will be asked to approve a directive for MUSD Superintendent Jeff Kleck to develop plans and a timeline to accomplish the topics discussed in the study session.
