Maricopa Unified School District Governing Board will elect a president and vice president when it meets tomorrow night.

The board meets at 6:30 p.m. in its board room at the MUSD administrative offices, 44150 W. Maricopa Casa Grande Highway.

Robert Downey is the board’s current president, serving his second year-long term. It is uncertain whether he is interested in serving a third term or if he will step down so another board member can be nominated. The board last month elected Patti Coutre as vice president for three weeks to fill the slot until tomorrow’s meeting.

District policy requires top leadership vacancies to be filled the same year. The vice president position was vacated in October with the resignation of former board vice president Gary Miller.

The panel could re-elect Coutre at the Wednesday school board meeting in order for her to remain second-in-command.

It is uncertain if she will be re-nominated as vice president or be nominated to succeed Downey should he choose to step down as board president.
