Other county districts, schools asking for more funds

Maricopa Unified School District is not the only district in Pinal County asking taxpayers in November to increase school funding, according to the Pinal County School District Office website.

On Nov. 8, voters in MUSD can go to polls to vote for or against a 15 percent budget override tax that would fund existing programs and staff salaries.

Like MUSD, a 15 percent budget override is on the ballot for voters in the Florence Unified School District. If passed, that override would replace the phase down in 2012-13 of a previous override.

J.O. Combs Unified School District in San Tan Valley north of Florence is asking voters to pass a 10 percent maintenance and operations budget override and a 5 percent special programs override.

Casa Grande, Oracle and Eloy elementary schools are asking for school improvement bonds in the amounts of $29 million, $13 million and $3 million, respectively.

Toltec Elementary is asking its voters to approve $900,000 to $250,000 for student transportation and changing a category from new facility construction to school building construction, additions, renovations and site improvements from $3.1 million to $3.75 million.

The mission of the Pinal County School District Office, led by Superintendent Orlenda F. Roberts, is to work in partnership with districts and schools in the county to address common goals and challenges.
