Brew-lieve it or not, a popular coffee chain is on the menu for Maricopa’s south side — and it’s not Dutch Bros.

Starbucks recently submitted pre-application paperwork to the city to build a second location near the Home Depot on Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway and Stonegate Road, according to a top city official.

“This one pad is going to be a Starbucks, a stand-alone Starbucks,” City Manager Rick Horst said during a presentation Wednesday at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club. “There’s some other fun, exciting things coming as well.”

Other projects mentioned in the presentation included a nearby Circle K, a wings restaurant and a retail center near the Tortosa subdivision.

What we know

Horst did not offer many details about the proposed Starbucks, other than the drive-thru coffee joint would sit just west of Home Depot. There are three other restaurant and retail lots in that plaza.

The building would measure about 2,400 square feet, making it 500 square feet larger than the existing store on John Wayne Parkway at Smith-Enke Road. Floor plans and elevations were not available.

Maricopa’s first standalone Starbucks opened in 2015. The Seattle company has coffee counters inside the Fry’s Marketplace and Bashas’ stores on the main strip, too.
