A semi-trailer filled with trash caught fire on Monday morning, causing headaches for motorists until the fire scene was cleared in the evening.

The fire was reported at 10:35 a.m. on southbound State Route 347, north of Casa Blanca Road, according to Department of Public Safety spokesman Bart Graves. It was extinguished at 11:16 a.m., but the cleanup would snarl traffic for hours.

“Southbound lanes were blocked while the trailer had to be offloaded,” Graves said. The roadway reopened at 6:05 p.m.

Gila River Police and Fire responded to the incident. There were no injuries reported.
