Seniors thank Mullins for ‘giving them a home’

‘Copa Seniors met Thursday morning and presented Brian Mullins with a plaque as a symbol of their gratitude for his generosity.

Mullins, the owner of Anytime Fitness, has provided a meeting place for the seniors since the group’s inception in January 2009. Growing from a handful of interested residents, the group now boasts nearly 50 members at each meeting. Currently, they meet each week instead of twice a month as they did originally.

Their meeting place is in the back room of Anytime Fitness, following the Silver Sneakers exercise program, which many of them participate in at 8 a.m.

Mullins, who was unaware of the presentation, seemed surprised at the award.  The plaque read: “In appreciation for giving us a home and a place to grow.”  He also received a poster with a photo of the group; individuals had signed it, including their personal thanks.  A bonus award came in the form of two large Rice Krispie treat dumbbells for Mullins to enjoy, all presented by ‘Copa Seniors president Carol Grandfield.

‘Copa Seniors hold regular meetings on the second and fourth Thursday of each month and for games and a social time on the first and third Thursdays of the month, all beginning at 9 a.m.

In addition to their Thursday meetings, the seniors have an arts and crafts session and luncheon at a member’s home on the first Wednesday of each month.

A bridge group is forming this month, which will meet at Anytime Fitness at 9:15 a.m. on March 18. For information, contact Paul Gesicki at 520-568-6483.

The seniors also hold a monthly walk and lunch following a meeting, and they arrange areas tours for members. A book club is in the planning stages.

For information on becoming part of the ‘Copa Seniors activities, contact Grandfield at [email protected]. The next meeting will be on March 11 at 9 a.m. at Anytime Fitness (use back door).
