Maricopans heading to Tempe and southeast Phoenix this weekend should prepare for delays and closures of several main roadways near Interstate 10, the Arizona Department of Transportation said.

I-10 at Broadway Road will be particularly impacted.

Eastbound I-10 will be narrowed to two lanes near Broadway Road from 10 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Sunday (Feb. 26) for freeway widening.

Broadway will be closed in both directions from 48th to 55th streets, 10 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Sunday for freeway ramp reconfiguration.

At the same time, the following ramps will be closed:

  • Eastbound I-10 connector from 48th Street to Broadway Road.
  • Westbound I-10 on and off at Broadway Road.

Drivers will not be able to access Broadway from 52nd Street and should use University Drive instead.

ADOT recommends eastbound drivers on Broadway who wish to continue past the closure use southbound 48th Street, to eastbound Southern Avenue, to northbound Priest Drive, to access Broadway Road east of the closure.

Westbound drivers on Broadway who want to continue past the closure should use northbound Priest Drive, to westbound University Drive, to southbound State Route143, to access Broadway Road west of the closure.

Travelers on eastbound I-10 who want to access eastbound Broadway Road should use eastbound Baseline Road, to northbound Priest Drive, to access Broadway east of the closure.

Those traveling west on I-10 who want to access westbound Broadway Road should use southbound 40th Street, to access Broadway Road west of the closure.

ADOT recommends drivers on westbound I-10 who want to access eastbound Broadway Road should use northbound State Route 143, to eastbound University Drive, to southbound Priest Drive, to access Broadway Road east of the closure.

In addition to those closures, 32nd Street will be closed in both directions from Wood Street to Elwood Street from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday for work-zone set up. At the same time, I-10 on-ramps and off-ramps at 32nd Street will be closed. Motorists can use on and off ramps at 40th or 24th Streets instead.

ADOT is recommending the following detours:

  • Drivers on northbound 32nd Street should use eastbound Broadway Road, to northbound 40th Street, to westbound University Drive, to access 32nd Street north of the closure.
  • Drivers on southbound 32nd Street should use eastbound University Drive, to southbound 40th Street, to westbound Broadway Road, to access 32nd Street south of the closure.

Other freeway closures and restrictions include closure of westbound U.S. 60 from Val Vista Drive to Country Club Drive from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for a pavement-improvement project. Westbound U.S. 60 on-ramps at Greenfield and Higley roads also will be closed at that time.

ADOT recommends using westbound Loop 202/Red Mountain or Santan freeways as alternates. Drivers westbound on U.S. 60 should consider exiting ahead of the closure and using westbound Baseline Road or Southern Avenue to travel beyond the closure.
