Slim Chickens opened its doors Monday morning.

Operating Partner Lucas Barnett told InMaricopa last week he anticipated a hectic opening day. “There’s going to be some long lines at the beginning of the week,” he said last week. He was right.

A line of dozens formed at the restaurant’s front door before the restaurant’s 10:30 a.m. opening. At the head of the line was five-year resident Ron Talbot.

“I’m excited for a new chicken place,” he said. “It’s definitely needed here.”

The drive-through had an even longer line of vehicles. It stretched through the parking lot toward Shea Way. Three-year resident Marlene Pedraza was the first customer at the restaurant’s drive through.

The Fayetteville, Ark.-based fast-food restaurant features a menu of tenders, wings, sandwiches and salads.

One of its top sellers is the Slims meal, a five-piece combo meal that comes with chicken tenders served grilled or fried, two sauces, fries and a drink.

A poll by InMaricopa showed 45 percent of readers favored the opening of Slim Chickens over other fast-food restaurants currently under construction.

“It’s amazing, I think it’s going to be huge in Maricopa,” said General Manager Alex Montes last week.
