The Maricopa Unified School District’s governing board will hold a special meeting Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the District Office Administration Building, 44150 W. Maricopa-Casa Grande Hwy, to fill several district positions.

Governing board members are being asked to approve the assistant principal positions at Butterfield and Saddleback Elementary Schools. Those positions were eliminated at the April 14 board meeting as part of budget reductions.

In addition, approval is being sought to fill the following district positions:

· 18 teachers at Maricopa Wells Middle School
· 3 teachers at Maricopa High School
· 6 elementary school positions

Update:  In a seven-minute meeting, the governing board approved renewal of the assistant principal positions at Butterfield and Saddleback Elementry Schools by a 3-1 vote (Carrie Vargas was absent and Tim White voted against the approval).

Unanimous approval was given for filling the other 27 district positions, including 18 Maricopa Wells Middle School teachers, three high school teachers and six elementary positions. One change was made to include a MWMS technology instructor. That position should have been listed instead of three P.E. teachers at Maricopa Wells.

Board member Lori Glenn asked Superintendent Kleck is reinstating the Maricopa Wells teachers meant closing that school was “off the table.” Kleck said that was the case, adding that the budget would cover that decision.
