The pavement resealing project on State Route 347, originally expected to be completed by the end of the year, will continue into late February.

Overnight lane restrictions on northbound and southbound State Route 347 between Hathaway Avenue in Maricopa and I-10 will resume Monday, Jan. 4 and be in effect from Monday to Thursday, 8 p.m. to 4 a.m., according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Traffic will be restricted to one lane and work will be limited to three-mile segments in one direction of travel each overnight.

The project was to have launched Nov. 1 but was delayed two weeks by the contractor, Cholla Pavement of Apache Junction, ADOT said. Through the fall, work was done five nights a week, Sundays through Thursdays.

The contractor is crack sealing the roadway with an oil-like substance and the reapplying pavement markings, where necessary.

ADOT again advises drivers to slow down and use caution around construction personnel and equipment while work is underway.

A worker on the project was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver shortly after work started on Dec. 16 in a designated construction zone in the northbound lanes near Casa Blanca Road, police said.

Work schedules are subject to change based on weather and other unforeseen factors, ADOT said.
