Teachers and childcare providers play a critical role in shaping children’s lives.

United Way’s Success By 6 program is a public and private partnership dedicated to making sure every child is healthy, safe and ready to succeed in school by age six. This community initiative is based on the understanding that the earliest years are critical to human development.

Success By 6 Coordinator Nikita Barrow urges all childcare providers to take advantage of the free monthly training sessions starting this week. “All childcare workers, home care centers, foster parents, grandparents and parents are welcome to attend.”

This month’s training will take place on Thursday, May 28, from 6-8 p.m. Entitled “How Children Learn: A Look at Multiple Intelligence Theory,” the class will teach participants to define development, developmental domains and factors that affect development, including the multiple intelligence theory and the importance of play.

On June 25, the training will consider “Disrupting the Flow: Impacts on Brain.” Participants will explore how a child’s brain develops and strategies that must be implemented to ensure quality care is delivered that fosters healthy development.

Other trainings (all from 6-8 p.m.):

July 23: Emergent Literacy in Two Languages
Aug. 27: Practical Ideas Addressing Children’s Behavior
Sept. 24: Music and Movement

Participants should RSVP for classes. For more information, contact Barrow via email at [email protected] or by phone at 520-836-0736.
