Just before 3 a.m. this morning, Maricopa Police Department was dispatched to a home on the 41300 block of West Brandt Drive in the Homestead subdivision for an aggravated assault involving a firearm.

Reports were received that a man had threatened to kill a woman and, at one point, chased her and her children down the street. When MPD officers arrived, they made contact with the woman and children and ensured they were safe.

The suspect, however, refused to exit the home for several hours. This prompted a response from the Pinal County Regional Swat Team and additional MPD officers. A brief shelter-in-place alert was sent to residents in the immediate area to ensure everyone’s safety.

Just after 8 a.m., the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody. He has been identified as 56-year-old Shannon Hammond Sr. from Rialto, Calif.

”Thankfully, no one was injured,” MPD spokesperson Monica Williams said.
