The Desert Sun Performing Arts end-of-the-year dance recital on Saturday at Maricopa Elementary featured 170 dancers, including tiny tots and their dads.

“This is a great opportunity for members of the community to come out and see the results of the hard work these dancers have put in,” Desert Sun’s owner Ceylan Gentilella said.

This is the second year the performing arts school has held an end-of-the-year event; last year it attracted more than 600 people, Gentilella said.

This year’s rendition was billed as “Dancing with Our Stars.”

Of the 150 dancers, 90 were preschoolers and 20 were their fathers who danced hip-hop steps, Gentilella said.

This dancer shows off for the camera at home before the dress rehearsal.Ballet, tap, jazz and lyrical dance steps also graced the stage.
“I am so proud of how hard my students have worked this year, and I cannot wait to share their performances with their families and the community,” Gentilella said shortly before the performance.
