Traffic Task Force focuses on traffic safety community awareness

Maricopa’s Traffic Task Force will meet Thursday to discuss community education traffic safety programs as well as ongoing public safety concerns and issues. The meeting’s agenda follows:

4. Unfinished Business

4.1 Education. The committee shall discuss ongoing driver and community education programs that will effectively result in the community’s awareness of both traffic and traffic safety issues. Discussion and Recommendation to Public Safety Committee

4.2 Short Term Issues. The committee shall discuss short-term traffic issues (local, easily identifiable, easily resolved) that are reasonably obtainable. Committee will develop list of concerns and forward to those parties responsible of said concerns. Committee shall discuss emergency traffic control readiness, alternate route information, signage for alternate routes, replacement parts for damaged or destroyed traffic control devices, 24/7 traffic information point of contact, effective community notification of real time traffic. Discussion and Recommendation to the Public Safety Committee.

4.3 Long-Term Issues. The committee shall discuss long-term traffic issues such as those that require engineering solutions, funding sources and/or require regional input and co-ordination. These issues not only impact our citizens’ well being but also their property values and quality of life. Discussion and Recommendation to Public Safety Committee.

4.4 Additional Members. The committee will discuss individuals and Organizations that have been invited to participate in our dialog. Discussion and Recommendation to the Public Safety Committee.

5. New and Miscellaneous Business

5.1 New Issues. The committee shall discuss new public safety issues of which city staff should be aware. Discussion.

5.2 Goals for 2007. Review desired agenda for 2007. Discussion.

6. Next Meeting. Thursday, March 8, 2007.

7. Call to the Public

The procedures to follow if you address the Committee are: Committee requests that you express your ideas in five minutes or less and refrain from any personal attacks or derogatory statements about any City employee, a fellow citizen, or anyone else, whether in the audience or not. The Chair will limit discussion whenever he deems such an action appropriate to the proper conduct of the meeting.
