Two restaurants flagged in August health inspections

In August, the Pinal County Health Department inspected six Maricopa eateries, all receiving perfect scores with the exception of Farmer’s Restaurant and Subway.

Both restaurants received a score of “S” on their inspections.

Subway had violations regarding holding foods at a temperature range outside the safe zone, and improper concentrations of chemicals in sanitation buckets.

Farmers received a markdown for not maintaining a low enough temperature for cold-storage items.

The department conducts random inspections aimed at ensuring that all the proper safety steps are being taken to maintain consumer safety, county officials said.

To ensure consumer safety, the department can issue violations that are either critical or non-critical. Critical violations must be fixed within 10 days and affect a location’s score. Non-critical violations must be fixed within 90 days.

Grades are based on the number of violations with an “E,” for excellent, being the highest possible score an establishment can receive. Other scores are: “S” for satisfactory; “U” for unacceptable; and an “N” for needs improvement.

Those establishments receiving an “E” the past month were Penasco’s, Fry’s, Kentucky Fried Chicken and Teakwood’s Tavern and Grill.
